Lake Country Power is calling on volunteers of all ages to grab their rakes and lend a “green touch” to Bear Head Lake State Park, Ely, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The volunteer work will be directed by the state park, which may include outdoor activities such as clearing hiking trails, raking leaves and pine needles, collecting litter, cleaning camp sites, gathering downed limbs, and cleaning the shoreline.

Everyone is welcome to participate in GreenTouch™, including youth groups, schools, service clubs and other organizations. You need not be a Lake Country Power member to volunteer.

GreenTouch™ is a statewide cooperative, environmental and community outreach program sponsored by Minnesota’s Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives. Lake Country Power’s goal for the GreenTouch™ program is to enhance the quality and appeal of our state parks within the cooperative’s service area.

Secluded in the Northwoods, Bear Head Lake State Park contains pristine lakes and is home to black bears, nesting eagles, wolves and moose. The park was established in 1961 and is located just south of access points into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The park can be found at 9301 Bear Head State Park Road, Ely.

While you’re volunteering, be sure to try out America’s Favorite Restroom at Bear Head. Yes, that’s right! Bear Head won Cintas’ annual ‘America’s Best Restroom’ contest among all state parks in 2025.

If you would like to participate in GreenTouch™, please contact Tami Zaun at Lake Country Power and RSVP by Monday, May 11, by calling 1-800-421-9959, extension 7152, or email tzaun@lcp.coop. Lunch will be provided for volunteers by the co-op.

Volunteers do not need a state park vehicle pass and should meet at the Trail Center enclosed building upon arrival. RSVPs by May 11 will help ensure an accurate count for lunch and allow the park time to organize its work plans.
